About Me

Hello and Welcome to Saving For Someday!
My name is Sara and I’m one of those people who just loves a great deal. Coupons, rebates, clearance items — you name it, I’m on it! For many years I was living the life of a DINK (Dual Income No Kids) and was often looked down upon by colleagues and business associates who saw me in the store using coupons or talking about a new deal I saw. Then I became a mom and somehow it became ok to find ways to save. Guess it’s that looming college tuition that people know needs to be saved.
Shortly after becoming a mom I decided to hang up the power suits and became what I call a Professional Mother. After a few months of staying home, I quickly discovered that being a single-income family required me to make-over how I spent money. All of a sudden there were other things that were calling out to my money and being the uber-planner that I am I tried to figure out how to make it all work. I was more cautious about my purchases and tried to manage where all the money went. But, I didn’t really know how to continue to live the lifestyle that we created and raise a child without making sacrifices. I found that it isn’t easy and it takes planning.
So, I set out to find more about budgeting and money management. I found great blogs that helped me more with couponing and rebates and finding good deals on toys and gifts. But there was still something missing — how was I ever going to pay for all the things I want in life? Sure, there are people out there who are supposedly gurus on the topic of budgeting and saving money for retirement and college and all that. But, the reality of it is that I didn’t want to live on eating rice and beans for the next 20 years or never being able to take a family vacation because I haven’t amassed tens of thousands of dollars.
This is where the idea for this blog was born — How do I save for those things I wished for? How do I manage my budget so I can start making someday a reality? I still get to have a life, right?
The picture I have at the top is a symbol of what this blog means. It is Cinderella Castle at Disney World, taken by me. It reminds me of the goal I had to take my sister to Disney World for her 40th birthday. Not only did we have a magical experience, we were able to do it in high style – deluxe resort and deluxe dining! By saving money with coupons, rebates, good planning, being strong and resisting temptations to buy the latest and greatest I was able to take this Trip of a Lifetime without impact on my daily budget.
We ALL have dreams and goals and wishes and plans for our lives. So I’m going to Stop Wishing and Start Doing, and encourage you to do the same! Welcome to Someday!
