Anything Your Heart Desires Can Come True

I love Disney.  Not all things Disney, mind you.  I’m not always into the movies.  And I don’t watch The Disney Channel.   But I love me some Disneyland and Walt Disney World.  And I can listen to the music from the parks day and night.  (Yes, I’m a sucker and bought the CD – Four Parks, One World) Disney touches people in so many ways and some people, like me, become Disney nuts early on in life.  For others it comes later.  But when you realize you’re a lover of the Disney magic and others aren’t, it’s hard to understand. But I live in my own little world sometimes, so that’s fine too.

I spent many days of my tweenageness (I know, not a word, but I make words up all the time) at Disneyland – I used to know the exact number of times I went to Disneyland. I know it’s over 500 though.  I loved going there with my friends.  I always had a great time when I went.  And I always left knowing I’d go back.

In the times between my visits — sometimes I’d actually go several days in a row! — I always felt like anything was possible.  I loved growing up in the shadow of Disneyland.  From my friend Jannis’ house we could even see the evening fireworks.  It was awesome to say the least.  Watching the colorful bursts of light made me feel like all my dreams would come true.

I moved away from California but never forgot all the magical moments.  I never forgot the the joy of watching the evening fireworks.  Fireworks at Disneyland and Disney World always start with Tinkerbell’s flight.  And THE song, Wish Upon A Star.  A song that says that anything my heart desires can come true.  I believed it.  And the kid in me still does.

Sometimes I forget this. But thanks to BabyGirl I’ve been able to reconnect with that part of my life. I’ve learned over the years that it’s not magic that brings it. And although I still want to believe in the magic of fairies and princesses, the reality of it is that if I want something I need to make it happen.  I have to take the positive steps to make it happen.

Go confidently
In the direction of your Dreams.
Live the life
you’ve imagined!

Hi Sara,

I have been to Disneyland a few times. One visit involved a long drive with an over full car and sweaty cranky people (but that is a blog post in itself). Most of my memories of Disneyland are good.

I love that quote that you included at the bottom. It is a reminder that we need to be moving forward in the direction of our dreams. We can walk out our dreams and make them happen.

What a beautiful post…and so very true. I like to think that is one of the very special things about Disney World/Disneyland is that they remind us that dreaming is ok! In fact, another great quote about the importance of following through on dreams is one of my favorites…and from Walt Disney himself: “All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.”

Hi Honey! Hi Nancy!

Thank you for stopping by and commenting. I really appreciate it. I never want to take the dreamer out of my daughter. And I want to put the dreamer back in me!

I love the idea of putting the dreamer back in you. So many things can dampen our spirits over the years, but I believe we can always start over. So exciting to watch you taking steps toward what you want from your life!

It is so easy to forget the fun and joy – and things are so crazy busy and noisy for our kids these days that I think the gift of imagination and time to dream is sooooo important- for all ofus!
