Refresh Your Routine for Back To School 2014

Back To School

This post is part of the HEALTHY ESSENTIALS® 2014 program by Johnson & Johnson Consumer Companies, Inc. and The Motherhood, who sent me a box of products and compensated me for my time. Opinions and experiences shared here are all my own, and I hope you enjoy them.

Back to school. While many schools across the country will open their doors and welcome excited students in September, there are many schools that start back in August. As BabyGirl heads back to school it’s a little bittersweet since it’s her last year of elementary school. And there’s a strong sense that she’s growing up and ready to be in middle school. But, thankfully, that’s a year away!

I’m willing to hold on to the last bit of her childhood as long as I possibly can. If she wants to snuggle before bed, I’m there. Even if there’s work to be done or dishes or laundry. Snuggling will always trump those things because one day I know she won’t want me to tuck her in and snuggle. I won’t like it, but I know it’s an important part of growing up.

With summer gone and school in session, some of the routine changes. For the most part, though, CycleGuy and I try to keep a consistent routine throughout the year. Probably more for us than her. Well, probably more for me. I’m definitely a girl who loves her calendar and her life organized. It means I have a hard time with being spontaneous, but as weird as it sounds I try to “plan” times to be spontaneous.

One thing I really like to do is use the back to school time to change-up routines to get rid of old habits that aren’t working and add in new ones. I do weird things like change out the shampoo and conditioner, buy new lotion, and get new toothbrushes and stuff like that. Totally weird, I know. But back to school is like making New Year resolutions. Back to school is a great time to get the energy back after a summer of chillin’. Or, as is the case for most parents driving like you’re a professional chauffeur.

I’ve professed my love of back to school supply shopping because I have a slight addiction to office supplies.  But I’m glad BabyGirl is growing up so I can share with her all the cool face cleansers, lotions, dental floss (I have a weird affinity for certain types!), and personal care products. It doesn’t help that CycleGuy spent years as a personal care products marketer because he won’t ever say no to testing out new cleansers, lotions, toners, and creams.

I think back to school is a great time to take stock in how the year is going and make adjustments. It’s a great time to change things up since there’s already so much newness. What’s one more thing! Well, that’s how I feel. I’m sure others would crumble at the idea of one more thing changing. But I’d rather just shuffle everything once instead of changing things slowly. Remember my love for routine?

What I also like about back to school are all the sales and coupons! Especially because it’s a great time to try new products. To help with back to school, Johnson & Johnson HEALTHY ESSENTIALS® is offering printable coupons, tips & tools and so much more for all the products you and your family love.

I remember being so excited to go back to school because that’s when my mom would buy me No More Tangles. Oh the memories! I love that Johnson & Johnson has the Healthy Essentials website with lots of coupons and special offers. Every dollar saved on personal care essentials is one more toward those super cool glitter markers and notebooks. I mean retirement and college fund.
