As a Tavern Direct Super Inside I was sent this month’s featured marinade and finishing sauce. It’s been a challenge for me because I’m not a fan of Asian food, so when I was tasked with using the Tavern Direct Asian Lemon sauce to create a recipe I wasn’t sure what to do. After some searching and figuring I came up with something that would be a great side dish and perfect for the spring and summer. It’s the perfect twist on a common summer salad.
The Asian Lemon marinade is a tangy soy-based sauce with garlic and lemon and a delicious asian flavor. Perfect for stir-fry or grilling, as well as a quick and easy finishing sauce for fish.
Asian Slaw (serves 4)
Difficulty Level: Easy
Prep Time: 10 min
6 oz Broccoli Slaw or Cole Slaw (you could shred up the cabbage, but I didn’t)
1/3 cup Tavern Direct Asian Lemon sauce (contains soy, not a gluten free food)
3 tsp Granulated Sugar
2 tsp Rice Wine Vinegar
1 Tbsp Creamy Peanut Butter
1 spring onion, sliced diagonally for garnish
1 sprig cilantro for garnish
Combine Asian Lemon sauce, sugar, vinegar and peanut butter in medium bowl. Whisk until combined.
In a large bowl, add the slaw and pour dressing on top. Gently mix until fully combined.
Transfer to serving bowl or plate and garnish with cilantro and spring onion. Serve chilled or at room temperature.
Really, it’s that simple! And it’s delicious, too. It has that Thai taste because of the peanut butter, and has that perfect blend of crunchy and cool. It’s a sophisticated twist on a summer classic. Great to take with you when you don’t want a mayonaise-based dish. The Asian Slaw is also an excellent accompaniment to grilled chicken or fish.
