Meet The Owner of Dollar Shave Club

Have you ever met someone and just knew it was meant to be? That’s how I feel about Michael, the owner and founder of Dollar Shave Club. A few weeks ago he sent me an email wondering if I would do a product review. He’s got a new company and is trying to get the word out. And I was in full-on Social Soiree mode. So instead of sending him back an email saying I’d do a product review I asked if he’d like to get his product and concept in front of a few hundred influential women. With that initial email a friendship was formed.

Coming from the Digital Marketing world, Michael in very online savvy. He also knows what it’s like to be extraordinarily busy, travel a great deal and get home on the weekend with the last thing on the ‘to do’ list being go to the drug store. Living in New York he knew that pretty much anything could be ordered online and delivered. Why not something as mundane as razors? Almost everyone uses them. And when you drop in to pick one up on the way home it’s expensive. Especially for guys – $10 a week sure adds up!

And from that his idea was born. Busy people want value and convenience. Not everyone is into extreme couponing and even then with razors that may end up ‘almost free’ you still have to outlay a pretty hefty chunk of change to get your reward dollars. So why not find a quality blade that offers an unbeatable shave at an unbeatable price?

CycleGuy has tried these and really likes them. I’ve used them as well and found them to be as good or better than the pink mega-blade razor I’ve had for who knows how long. The ‘old school’ twin blades are excellent quality – like the name brands only without the million dollar marketing budgets – and are packed in sets of 5. Perfect for using one each week without having to think twice about using dull blade. When you’re paying $10 for a light up, vibrating, triple blade with moisturizing strip you (or your main squeeze) may keep using it even when it’s past it’s prime. Not good! These, Michael wants you to get the best shave every time. Using a dull blade is not something he endorses. That’s why he made sure you’d get 5 blades every month. They may be inexpensive but these are not cheap razor blades.

So if you’re busy, lazy, don’t want to deal with coupons (or D – all of these) Dollar Shave Club is your answer. If you have room for storage, but a 1 year (only $24.00) or 2 year (only $30.00) supply and save time and money buy buying in bulk. If you’d like to lock in to a plan and never have to worry but don’t have the storage space you too can save time and money but it’ll cost you a few more dollars for monthly shipping. But it’s totally worth it if you don’t have somewhere to store these bad boys. And you can have them delivered to the office so you won’t have to check the mail at home.

Michael’s waived the $9.99 membership fee so you can buy any of his programs through the end of August and you’re a member for life! You’ll never have to pay the membership fee again.

How does this work?

1. Sign up for Dollar Shave Club

2. Select the plan that fits your lifestyle best

3. Fill out the online order form and pay

4. Wait about a week for Michael to pack your stuff and send it to you.

5. Get a close shave and become one of Men’s Health Top Sexy Dudes or Dudettes. (The last part is not part of the deal, I just made it up. Everything else is true!)

UPDATE 3/6/12: Michael re-launched Dollar Shave Club with a very cool (and now viral) video. Take a look at the Dollar Shave Club video. Also, DSC now offers 3 types of blades so if you’re not a fan of the twin-blade there are other options. Slightly more expensive but still a great deal!

Disclosure: Dollar Shave Club sponsored Social Soiree. I received no compensation. As a hostess of the event I did agree to tell you about this great product. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255: “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising.
