New From Progresso: Frozen Pasta Review and Giveaway [CLOSED]

Progresso Frozen Foods

Recently I had the opportunity to try a new product from Progresso Frozen Foods. I don’t know about you, but when it comes to pasta I’m not making Tortellini or Ravioli. But my family likes them so I usually buy the refrigerated packages. One of the drawbacks is that they have to be used pretty quickly.

The Progresso Frozen pasta comes in a resealable package in a blue box reminiscent of the chicken stock boxes. Each package contains 4 servings. And while we could easily make one package and have a little for leftovers, I made half a package because it was just CycleGuy and BabyGirl having the tortellini.

It was easy to make, and when you need a quick meal it’s a great option. I looked at the ingredients and was impressed that it was what I’d expect four cheese tortellini to be made of – wheat pasta and four cheeses. Into boiling water they went and in about 6 minutes I was draining them and ready to get dinner on the table.

CycleGuy and BabyGirl enjoyed them and felt they’d be a good option on a night we need a quick dinner. With a salad and garlic bread it was perfect for our busy schedule.

The new product comes in two varieties – Four Cheese Tortellini and Beef Ravioli. At my local store they are regularly priced at $6.39 ea. There are also three varieties of sauce – Marsala, Red Pepper and White Wine. The description are mouthwatering:

  • Marsala Sauce:  A sweet and savory blend of mushrooms, garlic, onion and Marsala wine (don’t worry, the alcohol is cooked off so kids can enjoy it too!), Progresso™ Marsala Sauce is the perfect complement to chicken, potatoes, or pork.
  • Red Pepper Sauce: Light, creamy, and full of flavor, Progresso™ Red Pepper Sauce will quickly become a family favorite. This versatile sauce features piquant Fiona peppers imported from the Mediterranean and plays nice with pasta, grilled meats, and veggies.
  • White Wine Sauce:  Layers of perfectly balanced flavors come together in Progresso™ White Wine Sauce, a creamy, garlic-and-lemon-infused sauce that gives a light touch to almost any dish.
  • Italian-Style Beef Ravioli: Enjoy home-style ravioli with hearty flavor and versatile preparations.
  • Tri-Color Cheese Tortellini: A rich, creamy blend of four premium Italian cheeses: ricotta, parmesan, Romano, and provolone.

My kids love pasta! The four cheese tortellini sounds amazing. And six minutes?! Wow. That would absolutely save me time in the kitchen! A dish like that would take me at least 30 minute to prepare.

Progresso Frozen Pasta will save me a tremendous amount of time because my wife barely lets me step foot in the kitchen anyway.

Since we are empty nesters my refrigerator always looks like we are getting ready to move and it’s already been cleaned out. I don’t know how my wife does it but she seems to be able to put a great meal together when I see nothing in there. The Progresso Frozen Pasta will just be another bullet in her creative holster.
