Reflecting on the Year So Far

I was looking ahead to our trip to Disney World in September and realized that we’re nearly at the end of July. Where did the time go? I can vividly remember frantically trying to figure out how to get this blog going, wondering what all these boxes and plug-ins and widget things were. Now, I feel almost expert-ish. In the blog world, 7 months is a long time evidently.

So, as I look back on these past (almost) 7 full months I realize a lot has happened. Both in my personal life and my online bloggy life, there have been many changes. I’ve mentioned a few of the changes in my personal live, but probably not as many as I could have. I’m just not sure yet. I don’t want to bore anyone and I don’t want to seem needy. So, let’s take a stroll down memory lane for 2010 so far.

Changes In Real Life

Who would think buying a blender is such a big deal. Well, when it’s the Blendtec 5000 (or whatever the real name is, this sounds cooler) I’m excited. I’d wanted one of these professional-type blenders for a long time and I finally got one. All the thanks goes to my friend Janet who whipped me up a tasty smoothie in her Blendtec when I was visiting Nashville in February.

Happy Birthday To Me – In May I turned 41. Nothing too eventful, but still a time for introspection. Turning 40 wasn’t that big of a deal, but 41 meant that I was officially a 40-something. And that is still a bit weird sounding to me.

But the big news came in June when CycleGuy accepted a job with a company in the San Francisco Bay area and we decided that it would be best if my husband left me, sorta. This has been the biggest change for me so far this year, and it’s only been about 7 weeks. When you’re used to someone being around all the time, it’s a challenge to make a full 180 and not have them around at all. I know many people deal with a traveling or deployed spouse so I don’t want to get all depressing and cry me a river. But I won’t lie and say it’s easy. In time it will get easier. Right?

Changes in Bloggy Life

This list is longer, it seems. So maybe I’ll just do a little list and you can see how I’ve ‘matured’ in these past almost-7 months.

  • I started a blog and signed up for Twitter.  Well, to have changes in a bloggy life one must have a blog. So I did that on January 1st, 2010 and I joined what has turned out to be a pretty wonderful club. As for Twitter, it is addictive. But I have made friends with people I’ve never met and they have helped me to trust again at a time when trusting was something I wasn’t able to do.
  • I went to Blissdom and met so many amazing women and learned that I had a voice that was important too. As a new blogger I was afraid I wouldn’t fit in. But I did. And I was welcomed, as if I was walking in to a favorite Auntie’s house after being gone for years.
  • And if going to Blissdom wasn’t enough, I got this fancy new website design. This fancy site is sure an improvement over the one that I started with that looked like a 5 year old designed it. No offense to 5-year olds!
  • Going to Blissdom and getting a new website design couldn’t alone sustain my bloggy high, so for my birthday I decided to go to bootcamp. A Bloggy Bootcamp to be more precise. One full day of learning about creating a blog that truly reflects my style, my odd sense of humor, my quirkyness, my ultra-TypeA ness even. It was the perfect gift to myself. And because of what I’ve learned there, you, my wonderful readers, have benefited from my opening up and letting more of myself and my voice be heard. And soon, one day soon, I promise I’ll do a vlog and you’ll get to see me in all my famousness since I’ll be on the web! And I think if you’re on YouTube then you are famous. Right? Or maybe that’s just that Bieber kid. Whatever, I’m cool!

That is a lot in just 7 months. And I didn’t mention everything. Truly, I could go on more.

But instead, I’d rather hear about how your year has been so far. Looking back on 2010 so far, what are you reflecting on?

I’m trying to think up a list of 30 things to do before I’m 30 at the moment, which is making me quite reflective of what I’ve done recently and what I want to achieve in the next couple of years.

2010 has been a busy year for us so far with a house purchase and moving. Lots of plans in the next half of the year too.

Wow! That is a lot of changes. It definitely is hard when they are gone. My husband was deployed for 8 months. I thank God for being able to communicate with him everyday though. 😀

Stopping by via Mingle Monday! 😀

Hi! Stopping by from Mingle Monday. What a great idea to list things like that – I’m sure it will be neat to look at down the road!

2010 has been an interesting year so far. I’m dealing with health issues that I’d hoped would get better. But I’ve also met some wonderful people that I am fortunate enough to count as my friends. I am so happy to have support where I never thought I’d find it, and that counts for a lot.

You have done a wonderful job in 6 months with life and bloggy life. It does not get easier…but it is bearable when you have Skype, Mobile phones and other ways to communicate and see each other. And oh yeah Southwest Airlines once again saves our love. I miss you but know that in no time we will be together and stronger than ever! Love you (You always love lists! )

Hi Sara,

What an awesome post. I wonder what I have done this year? Now, I will be pondering that thought while I fall asleep.
