Making The Most Out Of Kids Being At School

More like, WOO HOO! school’s back in session. Well, according to many of my mom friends. But with sending the kids back to school there are a lot of other things to deal with. And that’s where this great community comes in. Experienced and novice school moms have come together to offer support and advice on topics ranging from fun lunch, getting kids to do homework, volunteering in the classroom, organizing the house (now that the kids are gone a few hours), and so much more.

In addition, there are almost weekly live chat conversations to get information in real time. Like, on Monday (Sept. 19th) at 1pm Eastern (10am Pacific) I’m co-hosting a live chat with Cheryl who blogs at Tidy Mom. We’ll be talking about holiday crafting and home made gifts. And with the holidays right around the corner now’s the time to start planning and getting ideas.

In October, the Horizon folks will be bringing in renown pediatrician Dr. Alan Greene to answer questions for community members.  It will be a live chat and is open to all members of the Horizon Healthy Families community. So if you’re not a member yet, think about signing up to take advantage of this great opportunity.

The other day I shared information about helping children learn to make healthy food choices. By commenting on that article you’re entered to win a $500 spa gift certificate. So yah, rush over and share! I know you have an opinion about kids and healthy eating. Go ahead, I’ll wait! I won’t even expect you to share your gift certificate if you win because I totally understand that you need some ‘me time’ too.

If you follow me on Twitter, you’ll that I tweet about the Horizon community. You can follow Horizon Dairy on Twitter as well as Like Horizon Dairy on Facebook. And you should follow The Blog Frog and Like them too because there are many other great opportunities to learn and share (and, of course, there are other things to win too!)

So come join Cheryl and me on Monday 9/19/11 for the live chat and stay tuned for all the other things going on in the Horizon Healthy Families community. There is also a BlogFrog sponsored Live Chat on Thursday 9/22 at 8pm EST which will be lively and you will get a chance to win an iPad2!

Disclosure: As a Community Leader I am compensated for my time. My views are not edited.  This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Horizon.  The opinions expressed by me do not necessarily reflect the view of the Horizon Organic brand. That being said, yes, we do enjoy Horizon Organic products. I buy them (using coupons, of course!)

School Party Live Chat 8/17

Remember when you were a kid and how much you anticipated those school parties? Back when I was in elementary and junior high, my mom was a single working mom but she was involved in helping to make food or snacks for the school parties. Things are different now with food allergies and school rules as to what you can and can’t do or bring in. But we all want our kids to have fun events and it’s a great way to be involved without hovering.

This Wednesday (8/17) at 9pm EDT (6pm PDT) I’m teaming up with Cheryl for a Live Chat in the Horizon Back To School Community.  Cheryl blogs at Tidy Mom about pretty much everything from photography (you should see her food photos!), raising kids (she’s done a lot of the ‘been there, done that’), DIY and projects as well as food (delicious food!).

Join us in The Horizon Dairy community on The BlogFrog to meet and chat with other parents looking for insight and tips about school or classroom parties. We’ll talk about food (of course), but whether you’re a veteran school-party mom (or dad) or this will be your first year we’d love to know what you think.

If have not yet joined the BlogFrog community, please do. There are thousands of people sharing on topics ranging entertainment, crafts, health, photography and so much more. If you’re interested in it, so are others!

So, mark your calendar for Wednesday, August 17th at 9pm EDT to join Cheryl and me for the School Party live chat.

Family Dinner Fun Live Chat 7/25

Ronald Reagan once said that the future of our country starts around the dinner table. May sound hokey but he was right. Studies have shown that kids who eat dinner as a family have higher self esteem, make better food choices and are able to communicate more clearly.

I am teaming up with Liz from This Full House to bring you a lively discussion about Family Dinner Fun. Join us on Monday, July 25th at 8pm Eastern/5pm Pacific to talk about ways to make eating together as a family not only a priority but something the kids will want to continue well into their teens.

Join us in The Horizon Dairy community on The BlogFrog to meet other parents working to make dinner more than just meal time. We’ll talk about food (of course), but we’ll also chat about how to get the kids to engage and share, ways to make dinner time fun and so much more.

If have not yet joined the BlogFrog community, please do. There are thousands of people sharing on topics ranging entertainment, crafts, health, photography and so much more. If you’re interested in it, so are others!

So, mark your calendar for Monday, July 25th at 8pm EDT to join Liz and me for the Family Dinner Fun live chat.

Back To School …. Already?

Here in Phoenix, Back To School talk has already started. We’re half way through the summer break for most schools. As a homeschooler, summer break and back to school don’t have that same caché in my family. BabyGirl is on a year ’round program. But that may change. CycleGuy and I are looking at enrolling BabyGirl in school this coming August.

I know many of you just went through the end-of-year ritual and here I am talking about back to school. I promise, though, that you’ll appreciate why. It’s been a really long time since I’ve talked about the online community called The Blog Frog. If you read any number of blogs you’ve probably seen their community on a few blogs. It’s a terrific place to find people who share your interest in a specific blog, crafting, savvy and frugal living, photography and so much more.

And being that this is Year of Awesome 2.0, I’ve been asked to join the Horizon Healthy Families Back To School Community as a Community Leader! YAY!! I am joined by 10 women who will take on all the different aspects of back to school such as healthy eating, savings, organizing, and school supplies. Oh how I love all the fun school supplies!

I’d love for you to come join me in the Horizon Healthy Families Back To School Community, too! We’ll be giving away all kinds of prizes throughout the month of July, including Horizon awesomeness, gift cards and a $500 Back To School shopping spree. Imagine all the cool new pens and notebooks I could get. Uh, I mean, YOU could get!

Meet the other moms joining me as a Community Leader:

First, it is my pleasure to introduce you to the rest of the community leaders:

Being that I’ve never done the big ‘Back To School’ thing with BabyGirl, I’m excited to learn from others who have. And I’m looking forward to sharing my insight and expertise about organization, shopping deals, healthy eating and much more.

I’ll have the badge on my blog so you can just click on that to go to the community. I sure hope you’ll share your expertise, ask questions and share your insight. If you’d like, follow Horizon on Twitter and Facebook. We’ll be having fun events, so watch the community, follow me on Twitter and check me out on Facebook.

We are also having a Back to School Launch Party on July 14th from 9-10pm EDT/6-7pm PDT and I’d hope you can join me and the Horizon Healthy Families Back To School team. Remember, the Grand Prize is a $500 Shopping Spree! So mark your calendar for July 14th, and come to the Back to School Launch Party.
