WTF Amazon? Stop Selling “The Pedophile’s Guide” NOW!

by

UPDATE 11/10:  As of 9:05pm one of the books has been taken down.  If you click on the link below for the Pedophile’s Guide you will get a 404 redirect.  YAY!!

UPDATE 11/10:  As of 9:36pm the book is back up with different links, this time 2.

UPDATE 11/11: As of early today all links to the Pedophile Guide have been taken down. If you click on any link via search or hotlink on websites it should take you to a 404 redirect. Unfortunately, other books advocating violence toward children remain.

UPDATE 11/13: As of 10:45pm I no long find any valid links on Amazon for either of the 2 books mentioned. However, other books and videos showing and/or advocating violence toward children can still be found on Amazon.

I am trying to stave off a full blown panic attack to write this. I am FURIOUS! And for those of you who know me, I don’t cuss. So to see a WTF you know something is wrong. VERY WRONG!

Today I got a notice that Amazon has a book on Kindle called The Pedophile’s Guide To Love and Pleasure. Truly WTF is going on at Amazon? It needs to come down NOW! Not tomorrow or the next day, but NOW. N.O.W. NOW!!!

Amazon also sells another ‘pedophila’-related book called Understanding Loved Boys and Boylovers by David L. Riegel. Has been selling it since 2002.  I’ve asked that book to come down, to no avail.  Amazon uses Freedom of Speech as it’s justification for offering it.  I’m not buying it. Any book that advocates an illegal relationship with children IS NOT speech that is to be protected.

There are exceptions to Freedom of Speech. One we all have heard about is obscenity.  And there is a very specific legal test called The Miller Test.

The Miller test asks:
(1) would the “average person applying contemporary community standards” find the work, taken as a whole, appeals to the prurient interest; (b) whether the work depicts or describes, in a patently offensive way, sexual conduct specifically defined by the applicable state law; and (c) whether the work, taken as a whole, lacks serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value.

I don’t know if either of these books would met this standard but, surely, you’d agree with me that these works likely lack serious literary, artistic, political or scientific value.

I just can’t believe there was no one at Amazon who has the common sense to stop and think twice about this. There has to be a process whereby more than one person decides what’s going to be approved for sale. Someone needs to be held accountable and EVERY. SINGLE. COPY. of this digital book sold by Amazon must be de-authorized in some way. I dont’ know anything about how a Kindle works but it’s an e-Reader so there has to be some way. And that way better be fast.

This is where I need your help. Please Tweet, RT and/or post to Amazon’s Facebook Page that you want this book removed from their inventory. Also, I’m going to speak with my dollars. No matter that Amazon has great deals, I will not be posting them or supporting them in any way. Please accept this challenge too and BOYCOTT AMAZON until they take down this filth!

If you are on Twitter, I have a tweet I sent out. Please feel free to retweet it or make your own.

RT @saving4someday Tell @Amazon to remove The Pedophile’s Guide from their inventory! Please RT!

If you are on Facebook, Please go to Amazon’s Facebook Page and post a note to take down this book.

I’m not into censorship, but in this case there is no reason for this to even exist so don’t try to argue with me about all the legal or PC reasons it should be. No one needs to read this how to guide for molesting children. No One.

Amazon may have the RIGHT to sell this garbage but they don’t HAVE to. Everyday they make choices not to carry certain products. They don’t HAVE to sell either of these books. They don’t HAVE to carry items that are ethically inappropriate.

So stop reading this now and tell Amazon how you feel.

I just saw this story a few minutes ago. Completely absurd. This crosses the line. I understand freedom of speech, but Amazon is a business and the bottom line is their business CHOSE to sell a book with disgusting words. To me it’s no different than Amazon saying “We’re not videotaping child pornography but you can buy the video on our site.” DISGUSTING and SHAME on Amazon. They’ve lost business. Anyone who will take a stand and put children at risk…they get crossed off my list.

Janice, I agree. Promoting, even if legal, a book such as this is unacceptable. It may be legal to sell it but it’s definitely unethical.

I agree its wrong, but is drawing attention to the listing the way to get it removed. By putting it out there so more and more people go to look at it. Shouldn’t the force to remove this book be done in a way that doesn’t send people to the book?

Terry, people need to know that there are books like this out there. I don’t think the book should be purchased. To prove the book does exist, I felt I needed to link to it. I didn’t want to, but I also need to demonstrate that I’m not making up this disgusting book. I wish there was a way to remove the book without actually taking people to it.

Thank you for visiting and sharing your comment.

I’ve sent out a few tweets on this today as well, and added a link to an article on it to my facebook page as which spurred alot of discussion, none in favour of keeping it up.
Unfortunately, seeing as Amazon has already had a pedophile book on their shelves since 2002 I don’t see much hope in this one coming down. Not that we should stop trying! But sadly, it looks like I will have to boycott Amazon permanently 🙁

Jenn,

Thank you for taking a stance against this as well. I’m truly hoping that the power of the internet will get them both taken down.

Amazon has a choice in what they sell. They don’t have to sell things that are truly hurtful to children, even if they are protected by the First Amendment.

I’m not asking them to take down a book I don’t like. I’m asking them to take down a book that advocates an illegal act and promotes conduct that can cause life-long trauma to a child and his/her family.

I think it is shocking that Amazon thinks its ok to sell that filth after all its like saying to pedophiles “yeah it is ok to rape young children” i hope that book get taken down because it is wrong and so many families have been through like pedophiles raping their kids so it would be hard for them to see that they are selling a guide on it!!!!!
